چکیده

Immunoelectrophoretic analyses of catalase in a variety of tissues from normal Sprague-Davvley rats were made with rab bit anti-rat hepatic catalase serum. Several distinctive patterns of the enzyme were identified by this means. A pattern previ ously described for purified hepatic catalase with 6 immunologically independent subcomponents was again recognized in one of the chromatographically separated catalase fractions of the liver (RHC-A).3 Crude homogenates of the liver also were shown to contain the 6 subcomponents of the enzyme. Various combinations of the enzyme subcomponents were observed in different tissues, while the central nervous system and the ova ries revealed no catalatic activity or precipitin reaction by immunoelectrophoresis. These observations support the belief that catalase exists in multiple molecular forms and is, to some extent, characteristic of the tissue from which it is obtained.

Developmental changes of hepatic catalase in the rat.

Immunoelectrophoretic analysis of 25-day-old newborn and adult rat livers verified the presence of a 6-arc pattern of catalase observed earlier for purified rat hepatic catalase and for liver homogenates. Application of the immunoelectrophoretic method to fetal and newborn liver homogenates revealed a gradual shift from predominantly anodic arcs present in the fetal and early newborn period to ...

Identification of Intracellular Sources Responsible for Endogenous Reactive Oxygen Species Formation

The endogenous reactive oxygen species ("ROS") formation is associated with many pathologic states such as inflammatory diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, brain and heart ischemic injuries, cancer, and aging. The purpose of this study was to investigate the endogenous sources for "ROS" formation in intact isolated rat hepatocytes, in particular, peroxisomal oxidases, monoamine oxidase, xanth...

Adaptive changes of redox status in rat brain tissues due to decimeter microwave irradiation

Electromagnetic waves affect living organisms and it is of great interest for wide interaction of new sources with a diversity of frequencies and powers to life of people. In the last few years, many authors have proposed that the biological effect of electromagnetic fields in both the high-frequency and low-frequency ranges are connected with oxidative processes in tissues. Studying the change...
